To apply the Biblical concept of Jubilee in the Fremantle Community, through extraordinary, radical and generous acts of kindness that reveal the extravagant and unconditional love of God.
In Leviticus 25, the Bible teaches about a Sabbath rest; one day a week set aside to rest and re-energize.

God's command to extend this principle of rest to the land, meant that one year out of every seven, the land was to remain untouched.

The 50th year, following the 7th seven was proclaimed as a Year of Jubilee; an extra year of rest. In this year slaves were given their freedom and original land owners, who had been forced off their land because of hard times and crippling debt, experienced a debt free start as their land was returned to them.

The year of Jubilee reminded God's people that the whole Earth belongs to Him and all provision comes from Him. It was a year of restoration and freedom.
We believe God is asking us to apply the biblical principles of Jubilee to Fremantle this Easter (2003);
Life
Love
Forgiveness

This is an opportunity for the City to unite in the spirit of Jubilee, providing momentum for longer term initiatives and ongoing positive change in the City.

In the spirit of ‘Jubilee' churches in Fremantle are again expressing the message of love, peace and grace this Christmas. Acts of Kindness in King's Square, the distribution of five hundred Christmas hampers, and an open air Christmas Celebration for the whole family are the main attractions of Fremantle's Jubilee Christmas Festival, 2003.

The Fremantle community is invited to contribute to the goal of collecting approximately ten tonnes of food this Christmas (retail value $35 000), that will be given away in the form of 500 festive, generous food hampers for those in need. As per Jubilee at Easter, vouchers will be distributed to the Welfare Agencies to give to their clients in the lead up to Christmas. John Curtin High School Hall will transform into a food warehouse on Saturday Dec. 20th and hampers will be distributed from this point.

A tasteful blend of contemporary and traditional expression, this outdoor celebration is an evening for the whole family to enjoy. Through the creative use of dance, music and art, the reason for the season will be celebrated with life, colour and energy. Everyone is welcome!

"The concept of Jubilee, rooted in the Old Testament of the Bible, is one that I believe will inspire and invigorate the City of Fremantle.

I encourage and endorse the Churches of Fremantle as they seek to bless this City with generosity motivated by a sense of social justice and their love for God.

Robust faith in action will have a transforming effect on the rich fabric of our magnificent city."

"Once in a while, a group of people catches a vision that can significantly bring about social transformation.

They dare to work out what they have previously only dreamed about. But they know that their vision and action reveal to the world a God of compassion and social holiness.

Such is the Fremantle Jubilee Group.

I have no doubt that their courage and extravagant kindness will capture the imagination of the nation."
